Therapeutic Listening (TL) builds on the sensory integrative framework. It is an auditory intervention that uses organized sound patterns inherent in music to impact all levels of the nervous system. TL taps into parts of the brain involved in regulating bodily functions, relating to others and organizing behavior. TL has been used to address:

  • Poor attention
  • Difficulty interacting with peers and limited play skills
  • Challenges with transitions or changes in routine
  • Difficulties with regulating energy level (low arousal/inactive or hyperactive)
  • Difficulties with irritability, mood
  • Difficulty communicating (non-verbal and verbal)
  • Struggles with body functions (sleep, bowel/bladder control, and eating)
  • Trouble following directions
  • Challenges moving through space, bumping into things
  • Poor praxis and motor planning
  • Abnormal responses to input (sounds, touch, taste, pain, etc)
